The Vitals
"Come Undone"

I like how right when I relaunch my website and vow to stay on top of my blog posts, I just totally neglect it. This has been a crazy busy life changing year for me and I totally got buried in work. The biggest change for me has been that I have left the music business and have pursued photography full-time. Some may scoff at this but I was far from happy and stuck in a dead end rut. In May, I was offered the opportunity to shoot full-time for a company (we'll get into this on another post), and I had to take it. Since then, nearly all my time has been occupied with shooting, editing, and even doing a little video (!!!), AND I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER.

Just a little after I started the new gig, I got asked by one of my most favoritest bands, The Vitals, to shoot the cover for their latest single. How could I say no?! When I was sent the song, I was even more stoked to do it. Turns out they did a cover of Duran Duran's 'Come Undone'! I've always loved the song but when I heard what The Vitals did to it, I was floored. They made a perfectly great song, EVEN BETTER.

Kate had sent me some ideas and inspiration, and we both agreed that less would be more with this shoot; just listen to the song and the picture is already painted for you. When I got to Kate and Henrik's place, I was immediately drawn to one corner of the room that was occupied with a couch. I just loved the balance of the textured walls and the hard wood floors, plus we had some prime time late afternoon sun seeping into the room. With the help of a little bounce off the ceiling, the corner came to life. To top it all off, Kate has an incredible orange/red jacket that just popped with color and texture. While we decided to go with the black and white version for the cover, it was all about that texture. Lily was a natural and really made the shoot that much easier.

Here's the finished cover along with some of my favorite outtakes. And while you're at it, be sure to check out the song which you can download for free on their site!
